Convergence is a dimensional wood assemblage built from individually cut and beveled chevrons arranged in a precise geometric field. Each element is shaped in three dimensions rather than simply applied as a flat form, creating angled surfaces and exposed edges that give the work a distinctly sculptural character.
The individual pieces are stained by hand, allowing the natural wood grain to remain visible beneath a progression of saturated reds, burgundies, violets, blues, greens, and warm natural tones. Each piece is then hand-polished to a glossy sheen, intensifying the color and grain while allowing the beveled surfaces to interact dramatically with light.
Viewed straight on, Convergence presents an ordered field of repeating geometry and gradual color transition. From an angle, the composition changes: the bevels become pronounced, shadows appear between the elements, and reflected light moves across the polished surfaces. What initially appears graphic and highly structured becomes increasingly dimensional and tactile as the viewer changes position.
The repetition of a single form creates unity, while differences in grain, color, reflection, and perspective ensure that no two elements appear exactly alike. Convergence explores the point at which geometry, natural material, color, light, and craftsmanship come together as one composition.
