Purple Reign is a dimensional study in color, rhythm, and individuality. A field of hand-painted wooden blocks is anchored in deep purples, burgundy and crimson, then disrupted by flashes of turquoise, pink, orange, gold, white and electric green.
From a distance, the individual blocks resolve into a tightly ordered composition. Move closer and that order begins to break apart. Each block reveals its own gestures, textures and collisions of color—small abstract paintings that remain independent while contributing to the larger whole.
Varying depths bring the surface forward from the background, creating changing shadows and perspectives as the viewer moves around the work. Thick applications of paint and raised gestures add another layer of dimension, making Purple Reign as much a sculptural object as a painting.
